Reasons Why ALL Women Should Vote

Use your voice and vote!

What a perfect time for this country to come together and put people in office that will support the American people.

Reasons why ALL women should vote.

If 56% of the people vote, and it takes a majority for a candidate to win, that means only 29% of the votes elect our officials.  This leaves half the country not speaking their say, and the rest of us live by the vote of another.

As you see from the table, women have the power.  If every woman would vote, can you imagine the results we would see?

The Rape of the Sabines

A Roman taking a woman from her home in Sabine

The beginning of the Western Civilization.  Ovid, the poet of this poem, was not the only one to write about this.  Is there any truth to it?

The king gave the sign for which they’d so eagerly watched.

Project Rape was on.

Is it right?

It is impossible to tell the number of people who have been sexually molested in their lifetime.    Because rapes are rarely reported, the statistics are skewed, but I believe the numbers are much higher than we think.

Sexual abuse is an epidemic in this country.  Now that the subject is in front of us, we may as well discuss it.  Until the 1990’s that made it less so, a rape was a shameful act, one a woman would secretly live with – her entire life.  The stigma was turned on the woman if she came forth, and girls learned early in life to keep their secrets secret.

Bullying and Depression in Children

According to ABC News, 160,000 children a day stay home from school because they are afraid of their bully.  Both boys and girls are equally distressed when bullied.

Now is a good time to look at the connection between bullies and suicide.  Suicide is the second leading cause of deaths in ages 5 to 25.  The leading cause is depression.1

Why are our children so depressed?

A Parent's Guide to Bullying

Part Two - Why Children Shoot up Schools

Part One discusses the correlation between bullies, suicide and school shootings.  In Part Two, we discuss the biology behind bullying, and what parent's can do to help their child resolve their bullying problems.

This Parent's Guide to Bullying is a short version of the signs parents should be aware of if their child shows a gradual increase in misbehavior, they suddenly don't like school, or if they constantly complain about one or two people bothering them.

RENEW THE VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN ACT (VAWA)

An Important Announcement

We get Facebook posts asking us to save grizzly bears, to stop pollution in our water, to stop using fossil fuels, but how many posts do you get to save America's women and children?

The Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) is up before Congress for reauthorization. The bill was introduced in July, but its progress was waylaid by other things happening on Capitol Hill.

As of yet, there is little in the news about this bill, even though VAWA expires September 15, 2018.

America's women and children are in danger of no longer being protected from domestic violence, rape, and stalking. It is the government’s duty to protect its citizens, and if VAWA is allowed to expire, we will immediately see increased rates of these crimes against women.

Taming anxiety with mindfulness

MINDFULNESS

PURE AND SIMPLE

Anxiety, panic and worry stem from the same thinking process.  The trouble usually starts with worry, and as the feelings of hopelessness of resolving the issue progresses, so do the feelings of anxiety.

In serious situations, panic strikes!

People prone to anxiety can have these attacks multiple times a day.  If you are someone whose day is riddled with uncontrollable stress and anxiety, I have an idea that might work for you.

A Grizzly Situation

There is a stir among environmentalists:  The Wyoming Game and Fish has ordered that twenty-two permits be issued for trophy hunting of grizzly bears, with hunting starting September 1.  For those who do not live around grizzlies, and are upset by this news, I would like to shed some light on this seemingly “grizzly” topic.

I have lived in Wyoming all my life.  As a child, and later when my children were small, the greatest adventure in the summer was to go camping in the mountains or take the loop through Yellowstone and Teton Parks.  We took our tents, sleeping bags, and coolers of food, and prepared to get dirty, happy, and relaxed.  It was a great time; there is nothing like getting back to nature deep in the wilds.

The Scarcity Theory and Gun Control

The Scarcity Theory

Opportunities are perceived as more valuable when availability is limited.

The Scarcity Theory is the driving force of marketing that bombards us daily:

“Buy this exclusive offer.”

“Free for a limited time!”

“Hurry while supplies last!”

Consumers fall for those words because we believe the supply is limited, whether or not this is true.  We buy products that are on sale for no other reason than they are on sale!  People will stand in line for hours in the rain to buy their much-desired item – which is now in limited supply and on sale.

Child Abuse and the Deep Blue Sea

"I told you to shut up!"  shouts the mom in the store.  The next thing I hear is a reverberating SLAP as she hit her 3-year-old daughter's face.

The slap did not slow the child down a bit.  She was just as unruly throughout the rest of the store as she was before.  Obviously the slap did not mean anything to either the mom or the daughter.  It was just a way of expressing anger - not even intended to discipline.

An ounce of prevention

Prevention is the key to eliminating chronic diseases, drug and alcohol abuse, and all other sorts of maladies that affect people in our society.

There is a lot of talk about preventing heart disease by quitting smoking, but there is little talk about why the smoker smokes in the first place.  Or why does the alcoholic drink?  We can defer to Freud and say there was a delay in the oral stage and continue the thinking that the problems lay within the individual, or we can consider other possibilities for these destructive habits.

Grandma's Hands

~Anonymous~

My Grandma, ninety plus years, sat feebly on the patio bench.  She didn't move, just sat with her head down staring at her hands. When I sat down beside her she didn't acknowledge my presence and the longer I sat I wondered if she was OK.

Bullies and school shootings

My heartfelt thoughts and prayers to the grieving families that have lost loved ones to the thoughtless and malicious actions of others.

Law enforcement officers across the country are filling out a questionnaire as to whether they would be willing to go to homes and ask citizens for their guns.

Will you willingly forfeit yours?

Be kind to service animals

My name is Fred.  I am a service dog.  I asked my human friend to write this for me because English is my second language and I have problems holding a pencil.  My owner has been getting in a lot of trouble when he goes into places because of me and I want to speak on the subject.
